Grant Morrison Explains Everything

at Disinfo.con in February 2000. (Grant Morrison is a writer, iconoclast and man who Knows. He basically invented The Matrix, amongst other things. He is also funny as hell.)

Semi linked this a while back but having just re-viewed it, I’ma pimp it again because it’s fucking brilliant and everybody with at least half a functioning brain and any clue at all should watch it now.

No, I don’t care what else you think you’re doing or have to do. Watch it now.

Watch it now.

That is all.

  1. I still pimp this until the cows come home.
But don’t read my comments. Watch it!

  2. i don’t understand. he’s a drugged up whacko.

  3. his alien & magic shit tags him down a several notches.
however his take on personality somewhat resembles that of ken wilber. (which is something i totally believe in). taking multiple perspectives on any situation, and acting accordingly on each and ever one of them.
more lost points for speaking of mcgoohan.

  4. he resembles a bald george bush.
eyes, smile, laugh, and monkey like ‘Oh’ face.

Tell you what, Steve – why don’t you post about it on your blog? Then I’ll come over and leave unincisive, unanalytical, uninformed, smart-assey comments about how full of shit you and the people you admire are!
    Sound like fun?

  6. Teigs!
Wow you seemed to have actually gotten pissed there. You aren’t telling me that you actually believe in this guy.. are you?
By the way I don’t have a blog and I really do actually admire you so please don’t make fun of yourself.
However seriously I have some points to make.
    > unanalytical
    Oh please. About this stuff?
    > smart-assey comments
    Yeah. You’re right there.
First of all Teigan you are a grown man.. PLEASE don’t tell me you honestly believe (the operating system of) reality can be ‘hacked’ by an individual who mixes around a few letters and draws a funky picture on a sheet of paper.
    Nonsense!
What I suspect is REALLY happening is that people who perform this “ritual” are simply changing their mindset in order to succeed and reach certain goals in life (which is definitely a powerful model for success).
Believing that something will happen will automatically change your mannerisms, attitude, and actions in a positive fashion in order to reach certain goals. (Taking advantage of every opportunity that comes your way and going out to SEARCH for every opportunity possible).
This is a style of thinking that many people aren’t practicing! I am a Store Operations Manager for American Eagle Outfitters and I am 19 years old.
Other employees in a similar position as mine (Hiring Manager, Merchandise Manager, etc.) are in their late 20s/early 30s.
I just know how to apply myself, look for opportunities, ask questions, always learn, am energetic, and am doing something that I love and am good at!
Maybe you could call me crazy because I live, breathe, and have a shit load of fun with work (therefore going above and beyond my duties) EVERY DAY!!
Drawing pictures had nothing to do with it.
Second of all this guy claims to have been abducted by aliens.
I do not see how you cannot view him as either A) mentally insane or B) a liar.
It is also quite possible that he uses a wide range of drugs on a regular basis.. so it wouldn’t even matter if he was “just on dope” at the time of his abduction.
However, as I noted above, his speech about ‘the individual’ is very noteworthy if interpreted as taking several different perspectives on any given situation and acting accordingly (Not acting as your “normal self” every time a new distinct problem comes along).
But guess what.. people who suffer from associative identity disorder.. suffer from associative identity disorder.
I will give you that science cannot prove where this disorder comes from.. all they can tell is that the workings of the brain suffering from this are different than the “norms” of others.
Can these people be thinking on a different level? Do they have an expanded view (sensory or otherwise) of the world?
    Nobody can say for sure.
But I’m not going to believe this guy.
Teigan please tell me you DON’T believe he was literally abducted by aliens.
Please tell me you DON’T think that drawing funny pictures and then jacking off to them (okay that’s from beltaine but still) will allow you to manipulate reality.
    Seriously.
Oh he made me laugh though. He was pretty funny! I’m not surprised that he is a successful artist and entertainer.

Okay, with these comments you’ve officially crossed the line from “person I used to quite like who’s increasingly grating my tits” to “idiot”.
    >Please tell me you DON’T think that drawing funny pictures and
    >then jacking off to them (okay that’s from beltaine but still) will
    >allow you to manipulate reality
Unless and until you’ve actually tried it yourself – which is all Morrison is really advocating here – I suggest you pour yourself a nice fat cup of I-don’t-know-what-the-hell-I’m-talking-about (preferably laced with DMT) and fuck off, my young friend. He said, heroically resisting the temptation to call you “lil buddy”.

  9. teigan

Bill O’Reilly? The Fox News Bill O’Reilly?
    No, seriously, fuck off.

  10. j

    Trolls, sweetheart.
    Feed them not.
(But bonus nostalgia points for the CP shout-out 😉

  11. teigan

This no ordinary trolling incident, it’s Former Operative Cronin. He deserves special treatment – even if it’s special you-are-being-an-idiot treatment.

  12. j

Bow down, good sir. I knight thee Teigan the Benevolent.
(Also known in coarser circles as Teigan the Just Asking For It … 😉

  13. teigan

Hey, I make no claims of benevolence. I’m just pissed and saddened by the sight of someone I used to give two shits about being a dumb, arrogant little prick – and felt the need to express it.
    > Just Asking For It
If Morrison can get away with it, why can’t I? (Goes the reasoning.) (NB No answer required.)
And y’know, I could have gotten snarked by someone whose opinion actually matters to me
    >i don’t understand.
Should have stopped there, Stephen. Ah well.

The easiest thing to do with reductionist ploys is to use them to your benefit.
Let people believe what they will. Do not proselytize or argue with them. And if you do, deliberately do so in a way which will help them to firm up their own naive, simplistic ideas.
Help them to make their notions about you and your ‘beliefs’ so rigid that they can be effortlessly broken like glass.
Other peoples’ stupidity is your resource. Help them to remain stupid. Your chances of surviving long enough and with enough power are far greater.

  15. J it saddens me that you label me a troll.
    Really.

    Teigan,
    Why are you so hostile?
    > Okay, with these comments you’ve
    > officially crossed the line from “person > I used to quite like who’s increasingly
    > grating my tits” to “idiot”.
Are you serious. Alien abductions and magic. Are you serious.
    Jesus Christ.
    > Unless and until you’ve actually tried it > yourself – which is all Morrison is

    Wow 🙁

  17. > Bill O’Reilly? The Fox News Bill O’Reilly?
    Yes.
    > No, seriously, fuck off.
    Wait.. What??!!
Dude when did you become such a hothead?

  18. > This no ordinary trolling incident, it’s > Former Operative Cronin. He deserves
    > special treatment – even if it’s special > you-are-being-an-idiot treatment.
I do appreciate that you are at least still speaking to me.. even if it is through cuss words.

  19. > Should have stopped there, Stephen. Ah well.
Ya know I have been living in a small town in NH, about 15 min. from Maine, for the past four months and I TOTALLY forgot to look you up!
Although now you seem to treat me like Beltaine’s child.
    Or something.
    I’m so confused.

  20. teigan

    >Although now you seem to treat me like Beltaine’s child.
It’s to do with the way you’re acting.
    >J it saddens me that you label me a troll.
She did that because you are being a troll. You’re posting deliberately obnoxious and provocative remarks that do nothing to further interesting or meaningful debate, purely for the purposes of eliciting a reaction.
Now seriously: go away, grow up, and, one last time, now: ditch that Henley clown. I for one really dislike the effect he appears to be having on you.
Thanks for turning this thread into a flamewar.
    That is all.

  21. wow… i want what he’s on.

  22. Just to add to the agument, Bill O’Reilly is a dick and I hate Americans and Austrialians and The English.
I hate every single one of us.

  23. teigan

Damn; I was happy with 23 comments culminating in a nice closing remark from Mr deKoan.
You’ve fucked up everything, Adam. You have fucked up everything.
    You’re so right, though.
    So I’ll forgive you.
